More Perfect Union
More Perfect Union is a two-day institute that familiarizes middle school teachers with the More Perfect Union curriculum. Participating in dynamic lessons and cooperative learning strategies will show teachers how the Constitution applies to their lives and will demonstrate the skills and attitudes their students will gain to become active and engaged citizens. The activities provided in this curriculum help students deepen and reinforce their knowledge of our system of government.
Teachers will also be introduced to the We the People: The Citizen & the Constitution curriculum that teaches middle school students about civics, government, and active citizenship by participating in a mock congressional hearing.
This institute will provide participants with opportunities to practice a range of skills: taking and defending a position on a controversial issue, identifying areas of agreement and disagreement in reaching consensus, teaching others, and analyzing data.
Both curricula are aligned to the Common Core State Standards and were created for 6th-8th grade teachers.
